MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine Associate Director of Athletics Jim Hamad is departing to become the new Director of Athletics at Aurora University, an NCAA Division III school located in Aurora, Ill.
Hamad joined Pepperdine's staff in the summer of 2008 and has been in charge of student development, which included monitoring and evaluating the academic progress of student-athletes, creating academic enrichment programs, offering instruction on time management and study skills, as well as providing tutoring and academic counseling.
"I am thankful for the 4 1/2 years I spent at Pepperdine and for the support of the administration, which helped prepare me for my new position with Aurora University," Hamad said. "It has been a pleasure working with the wonderful Pepperdine student-athletes, and I hope that I impacted their lives as much as they impacted mine. I wish nothing but the best for Pepperdine in the future."
Hamad's last day at Pepperdine will be February 8th.
"Jim has been an outstanding and valuable member of our staff since he came to us four years ago," Pepperdine Director of Athletics Steve Potts said. "His commitment and dedication to the academic progress and well-being of our student-athletes is especially noteworthy. Jim has contributed to the improvement of our academic support program, our NCAA eligibility and certification process, our Academic Progress Rate and our Graduation Success Rate."
Hamad spent three years at the University of Pittsburgh as an academic coordinator before coming to Pepperdine. He earned a bachelor's degree from Kent State in 2000 and a master's degree from Akron in 2005.
