As the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Karina Herold is responsible for overseeing the department’s academic services units including academic support and student-athlete development, the external operations units including corporate partnerships, marketing, promotions, fan experience, branding, communications and events as well as athletic medicine and strength and conditioning.

Herold will serve as the Tournament Manager for the 2018 and 2020 NCAA Men’s Basketball West Region Championship at STAPLES Center hosted by Pepperdine University and previously worked in the same capacity in 2013 and 2015.

Herold oversees six sports, including women’s indoor volleyball, women’s beach volleyball, men’s volleyball, women’s tennis, men’s tennis and women’s soccer.

As the department’s senior woman administrator (SWA), Herold serves as one of Pepperdine’s representatives on the West Coast Conference’s Executive Council. She most recently served as the chairperson of the WCC’s Administration & Operations Cabinet and SWA Standing Committee and is the executive council liaison to the women’s beach volleyball coaches’ group, men’s and women’s tennis coaches’ group and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Before joining Pepperdine in July 2011, Herold was the Sports & Entertainment Sales Director for the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission (LASEC) where she was responsible for attracting major sporting and entertainment events to the Los Angeles area by fostering relationships with area colleges and universities and appropriate governing bodies and leagues. LASEC is an affiliate of the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board and Herold worked closely with their sales team as a designated liaison between venues, hotels and the client. Her other responsibilities included managing new business development, corporate and community partnerships, and marketing including LASEC's website and social media campaign.

Prior to her time at LASEC, Herold was a governance intern at the NCAA. Herold earned her bachelor's of arts degree in human development from the University of California, San Diego, in 2005 where she was a basketball student-athlete. She earned her MBA and master's of science degree in sport management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management in 2008.

Herold currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission and the Get in the Game Board of Directors. In 2016, Herold was named the Division I Administrator of the Year by Women Leaders in College Sports (formerly NACWAA). The Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management at UMass Amherst named Herold an Alumni-on-the-Rise Award winner in 2017.

Herold was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley and currently resides in Thousand Oaks with her husband, Glen, son, Nicholas, and daughter, Camille.
