March 22, 2014
Connell (Campbell, Calif./The Harker School) was the Waves' top runner in both the 100 and 200 meters. Her time of 12.70 in the 100 moved her up into a tie for fourth place on Pepperdine's all-time list.
Demick (Seattle, Wash./Holy Names Academy) was second in her heat in the 800 meters, and third in her heat in the 1,500 meters.
Connell was also part of the 4x100-meter relay team that ran a season-best time of 50.09. She was joined by freshman Gabrielle Ellis (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland HS), freshman Jordan Spencer (Grand Prairie, Texas/South Grand Prairie HS) and senior Natasha Hamlin (Arcadia, Calif./Mayfield Senior School).
Senior Channing Williamson (Kennesaw, Ga./North Cobb HS) was the Waves' top runner in the 400 meters, while freshman Torin Wile (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice HS) was the top Wave in the men's 800 meters.
The two-day meet was highlighted by a victory by junior Lisa Santroch (Shoreline, Wash./Shorewood HS) in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday night.
Now five meets into the season, Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti is pleased with his team's progress.
"Venus Jewett joined our staff this year and she has done a wonderful job with our sprinters," Radnoti said. "Our times are improving, the camaraderie is great and she's brought a nice spirit to it all. Everyone is seeing not just short-term improvements, but long-term improvements. I'm also really pleased with the development of our middle-distance and distance runners. They are set up for some great performances as we get closer to the end of the season."
Pepperdine next competes at the Cal Poly Invitational on Saturday, March 29.
