Summer Enalen broke her own school record in the women's 100-meter hurdles as the Waves ended track season at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday.
Enalen wasn't the only senior to go out with a bang, as Kasey Ullery set a PR in the 400 and was part of a new school-record performance in the 4x400-meter relay.
Enalen (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral HS) had come close to breaking the school record of 15.84 that she had set in 2011, running 15.85 and 15.93 in the past few weeks. Today, she smashed her mark with a 15.59, good for 23rd place out of 62 competitors.
Ullery (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley HS/Moorpark College) beat her previous best in the 400 by almost a second-and-a-half, running 58.29, which won her heat and took 20th place out of 68 runners. Ullery already ranked #2 on Pepperdine's all-time list in the event.
Later, Ullery teamed with junior Channing Williamson (Kennesaw, Ga./North Cobb HS) and freshmen Syrii Daniel (Yucaipa, Calif./Yucaipa HS) and Stasia Demick (Seattle, Wash./Holy Names Academy) to run 4:01.38, edging the previous school record of 4:01.49 set in 2009. The Waves finished second in their section.
Daniel was the first Wave to the finish line in both the 100 and 200 meters. She won her heat in the 100, as did senior Juliet Casillas (Los Angeles, Calif./Folsom HS).
Two Waves turned in strong performances in the women's 5,000 meters. Freshman Katie Engel (Honoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima HS) took ninth place overall and won her heat, while senior Hayley Lytle (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) was 10th overall. There were 55 runners over two sections.
Freshman Kelly Smyth (Toms River, N.J./Toms River HS East) ran 70.69 in the 400-meter hurdles, moving her into the #5 spot on Pepperdine's all-time top five list.
