TAMPA, Fla. -- After only a few events, rain and lightning (and the threat of tornadoes) cancelled the USF Track Open, hosted by South Florida, on Friday.
Pepperdine's Alex Evans competed in the discus (sixth place, 25.18m).
Liz Lyons (11th place, 5:41.66), Jessica Cervantes (5:52.02), Molly Coe (5:59.10) and Kelli Binder (5:59.12) took part in the women's 1500 meters.
Seth Allison (third place, 4:14.93) and Tom Verdone (sixth place, 4:28.84) ran the men's 1,500 meters.
The meet was only part of Pepperdine's reason for being there, as for the second straight year, the Waves' student-athletes worked at the Hope Children's Home as part of Project Serve during their Spring Break.
"Needless to say, we are disappointed," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "We spent our Spring Break here in Tampa working at the Hope Children's Home and enjoying great weather in preparation for the meet. And then it turned today. Fortunately, our student-athletes had a great experience. We are looking forward to our next competition."
Pepperdine next takes part in the Northridge Relays next Saturday (March 15), site of this year's NCAA Regionals.
