Connell, Heath Collect Academic All-District Honors
Both Pepperdine runners will have the opportunity to earn Academic All-America honors.
MALIBU, California – Pepperdine’s Izzy Connell and Nick Heath have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District women’s and men’s track/cross country teams and both will have the opportunity to earn Academic All-America honors.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.3 grade-point average, have participated in at least 50 percent of the season’s events and have at least sophomore standing both athletically and academically. Pepperdine is part of District 8, which consists of schools from California, Alaska, Arizona, Hawai’I, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Canada.
Connell (Campbell, Calif./The Harker School) graduated this spring and left as the top sprinter in Pepperdine women’s track history. She holds nine school records, six as an individual (outdoor 100 in 11.95, outdoor 200 in 24.31, outdoor 400 in 56.35, indoor 60 in 7.72, indoor 200 in 25.36, indoor 400 in 56.59) plus three more in relays.
A psychology major with a 3.96 GPA, Connell was also named Pepperdine’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2016-17.
Heath (Scotts Valley, Calif./Scotts Valley HS), who just finished his sophomore year, is Pepperdine’s top men’s distance runner in the modern era. He holds cross country school records in both the 8K (24:06.5) and the 10K (30:22.7), while in outdoor track, he holds school records in the 3,000 meters (8:31.23), the 5,000 (14:32.91) and the 10,000 (30:51.98). In cross country this past season, he won the Pepperdine Invitational and the WCC Preview Meet, and had the program's best-ever finish at an NCAA West Regional (35th)
A business administration major with a 3.98 GPA, Heath earned WCC All-Academic first team honors for cross country in the fall.
