CoSIDA Release

MALIBU, Calif.
– Pepperdine’s Izzy Connell became the school’s first track athlete to pick up CoSIDA Academic All-American honors after being named to the third team this week.

Connell (Campbell, Calif./The Harker School) garners the honor after maintaining a 3.96 GPA. She is one of 29 student-athletes on the 45 player list to maintain better than a 3.95 GPA.

Connell graduated this spring and left as the top sprinter in Pepperdine women’s track history. She holds nine school records, six as an individual (outdoor 100 in 11.95, outdoor 200 in 24.31, outdoor 400 in 56.35, indoor 60 in 7.72, indoor 200 in 25.36, indoor 400 in 56.59) plus three more in relays.

A psychology major, Connell was also named Pepperdine’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2016-17 and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team last month.

Her male counterpart Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Aaron Barnett, also picked up CoSIDA Academic All-American recognition this year, giving Pepperdine two Academic honorees for the second time in school history. As mentioned before, she is the first track athlete to earn the prestigious award and is the 13th student-athlete overall in school history to be named an Academic All-American.
