Cross County Teams Finish Fifth at WCCs
Pepperdine men's cross country runner Chris Ogle took 10th place at the West Coast Conference Championships on Saturday and earned All-WCC honors for his efforts.
Pepperdine’s women finished in fifth place for the second straight year. The Waves were led by junior Brie Carroll (Pusan, South Korea) and junior Courtney Young (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS), who finished the 6k race one second apart, 22:39 and 22:40, for 21st and 22 place, respectively.
“On the men’s side, Chris ran very strong,” Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. “He was in the top group for much of the race in some very good competition. He broke his PR for the season by 39 seconds. Also stepping up was David Williams, who was our second finisher after being mostly fourth or fifth during the season. Those were two very good bright spots for the men.
“For the women, Courtney set a PR by 50 seconds and became only the second Pepperdine runner to break into the 22-minute club along with Brie. Ashley Burt was a last-minute sub who finished fifth and had her PR by a minute and 23 seconds.
“There are a lot of good athletes and teams in the WCC and we’re working hard to be able to compete with them. The team has come together strong this season and I’m very proud of them.”
The Waves next compete at the NCAA West Regionals, held in
