Waves Set for NCAA West Regional Meet
The men's squad will be taking aim at the school record in the 10K.
MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men’s and women’s cross country teams will continue their postseason efforts at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento on Friday.
The women’s 6K will be at 11 a.m., followed by the men’s 10K at noon.
The Waves have already competed at the Haggin Oaks Golf Course once this season at the Capital Cross Challenge. Back on October 1, the men’s team ran the three fastest 8Ks in school history, led by sophomore Nick Heath (Scotts Valley, Calif./Scotts Valley HS), redshirt junior Nick Blanchard (Portland, Conn./Portland HS) and senior Ben Fox (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain HS).
They will take aim at the school-record 10K time of 31:45.0 set by Kenny Smith in 2011.
Freshman Treet Allison (Canyon, Texas/Canyon HS) will be the fourth member of the Waves’ squad to run on Saturday.
For the women, senior Lindsay Sheaffer (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) will compete in her final cross country event after leading the squad all season long. It will be her third time running at an NCAA West Regional, but it will be the first for the rest of the traveling team, which includes sophomore Elise Froebe (Lake Forest Park, Wash./Shorecrest HS) and freshmen Samantha Maness (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton HS), Lupita Perez (Fillmore, Calif./Fillmore HS), Tatum Rask (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge HS) and Bri Wilson (Murrieta, Calif./Linfield Christian School).
At the last meet, the WCC Championships on October 28, Heath finished in 18th place (the best showing by a Pepperdine men’s runner at the meet in nine years) while Sheaffer took 40th.
