This is the second year the Waves have had an honoree and the first with two.
Barnett has been Pepperdine's starting catcher for each of the last three seasons.
JUNIOR/2016: Started 52 of the Waves’ 53 games as a junior in 2016, leading the team with a .292 batting average … Led the Waves with 63 base-hits, smacking a team-high 15 doubles and a career-high three home runs … Drove in 22 runs and scored 25 more … Posted a .403 slugging percentage and .345 on-base percentage … Was the toughest player in the WCC to strike out, with 14.4 at-bats per strikeout (34th in the NCAA) … Had 21 multi-hit games and posted the second longest hitting streak of the season with 11 consecutive games … Also had a streak of 23 straight games in which he reached base … Went 3-for-5 in the Waves’ final game against Gonzaga (5/27) at the WCC Tournament, matching a career high with two doubles … Drove in multiple runs four times … Caught 16 runners stealing from behind the plate … Did not commit an error as the Waves’ starting catcher … Was named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List … Earned Cosida Academic All-District honors and was named to the WCC All-Academic team.
SOPHOMORE/2015: Appeared in 59 games, starting 58 for the Waves as a sophomore … Named All-WCC honorable mention … Earned Fullerton All-NCAA Regional team honors … Was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team and WCC Academic All-Conference … Finished the season with a team-high 69 hits … Ended the season with a batting average of .303 … Drove in 27 runs on the year, hitting 10 doubles and one homer … Committed just five errors behind the plate … Struck out only 12 times on the year, going 19.1 at bats pre strikeout on the year, making him the fifth toughest player to strike out in the nation.
FRESHMAN/2014: Started 60 of the Waves' 61 games on the year ... Named a Freshman All-American by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA ... Named All-WCC honorable mention and to the All-WCC Freshman team ... Earned NCAA All-Regional honors ... Named WCC Player of the Week on 5/19/14 ... Led the team and was sixth in the WCC with a .359 batting average ... Drove in 27 runs while recording five doubles and one triple ... Was 15th in the NCAA, third in the WCC, going 18.6 at-bats between strikeouts (12 total) ... Committed just three errors on the year as the Waves' starting catcher (.991 fielding) ... Threw out 39% of base-stealers from behind the plate ... Posted a team-best 20-game hitting streak (3/22-4/30) ... Had a season-best four hits three times ...
