HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Pepperdine baseball team jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but couldn’t score again, falling 6-1 to Hawaii on the road Friday night after a big fourth inning for the home team.

The Waves grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning, but a five-run fourth for the Rainbow Warriors was all they needed to take control.

Pepperdine posted eight hits on the day, but couldn’t push a runner home the rest of the evening, facing a pair of Hawaii hurlers. Six of the Warriors’ nine hits on the day came in the fourth, pushing across the five runs. They would tack another on in the eighth.

Bryan Langlois (Oak Park, Calif./Oak Park HS) singled home Hutton Moyer (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) in the top of the third for the Waves’ only run. Moyer doubled to left earlier in the inning.

UH starter Scott Kuzminsky tossed 7.0 innings, scattering six hits and giving up just the one earned run to pick up the win. Andrew Jones threw the final two innings to finish the game off.

Chandler Blanchard (Henderson, Nev./Coronado HS) relieved Jackson McClelland (Beaumont, Calif./Redlands East Valley HS) in the fourth for the Waves, throwing the next 2.0 innings, giving up one hit and no runs. Ivan Dilda (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid Pacific Institute) and A.J. Puckett (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) closed the game out without giving up a hit.

Moyer led the way offensively for the Waves with two doubles on the day.

Jordan Richartz drove in two runs for UH and he and Austin Wobrock each went 2-for-3 on the day. Six players hit safely for the Warriors Friday night.

The loss drops the Waves to 7-3 on the year and moves UH to 6-5. The two teams play the final game of the four game series tomorrow night at 8:05 p.m. (PST).
