MORAGA, Calif.- The Pepperdine bats got started early Saturday afternoon, collecting five runs in the first two innings, en route to defeating Saint Mary's 6-4 and taking the West Coast Conference series 2-1 at Louis Guisto Field.

Waves starter Corey Miller(Laguna Niguel, Calif./JSerra HS) earned his fifth win of the year as he went 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. He also tallied two strikeouts.
The Waves got to Gaels' (15-15, 2-7 WCC) starter Kyle Barraclough early in the first, as third baseman Austin Davidson (Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard HS) drew a one-out walk. Second baseman Joe Sever (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep) singled to advance Davidson and put two on for the Waves. The Gaels then started to unravel, as he hit left fielder Tony Cooper (San Carlos, Calif./Canada College) and walked Brown to force in the first run for the Waves. First baseman Sam Meyer (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis HS) reached base on an error by the third baseman, and Sever scored from third to give the Waves a 2-0 lead. Designated hitter Floyd Given(Rohnert Park, Calif./Sacramento City College) delivered an RBI single to put the Waves ahead 3-0 in the first inning.
In the second inning, the Waves would again start one-out rally as Davidson started things off with a single. After the Gaels recorded the second out, Cooper tripled to right center to score Davidson. Brown delivered his first RBI single of the day to score Cooper and give the Waves a 5-0 lead.
Miller held strong on the mound through the first four innings, allowing only two hits and no runs.
The Gaels got on the board in the fifth inning, collecting three runs on an RBI flyout and a two-run home run.
The Waves answered in the top of the sixth, scoring their sixth and final run of the day off an RBI single from Brown to take a 6-3 lead.
In the bottom half of the sixth the Gaels scored their fourth run of the day, but Miller kept the damage minimal and preserved the Waves 6-4 lead.
Through the final three innings the Waves bullpen was strong, as lefty specialist Brian McIlhenny (Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) replaced Miller with one out in the seventh to get the second out of the inning, and Eric Karch(Fresno, Calif./Clovis West HS) went 1.1 innings allowing the Gaels no hits.
