MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine struggled defensively at key moments and No. 4 Cal State Fullerton capitalized in a 8-4 non-conference loss Tuesday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium. The Waves (20-15) drop their second straight midweek contest while the Titans (32-5) complete the two game season series sweep.

Pepperdine never led in the contest and trailed 4-0 until Bryan Langlois (Oak Park, Calif./Oak Park HS) led off the fourth with a towering solo home run to left. It was the fourth home run of the season for Langlois, who finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Cal State Fullerton added two more runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly and a RBI single for a 6-1 lead. The Waves answered with a run in the home half of the fifth. Austin Davidson (Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard HS) doubled following a walk. Langlois sent an RBI single to left. Like the fourth inning, Pepperdine left two runners stranded in a 6-2 contest.

In the sixth Pepperdine closed the gap to two runs 6-4. The Waves scored on a two-base fielding error and on a sacrifice fly by Ranny Lowe (Granada Hills, Calif./Notre Dame HS). The Titans pushed the margin to four runs in the seventh, scoring on a wild pitch and again on a passed ball for an 8-4 lead.

Pepperdine committed three errors in the contest and four runs scored by Cal State Fullerton were unearned. The Waves outhit the Titans 10-7, but left eight base runners stranded.

Aaron Brown (Chatsworth, Calif./Chatsworth HS) Davidson, Langlois and Sam Meyer (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis HS) each finished with a pair of hits for Pepperdine.

Lefthander Matt Maurer (Medford, Ore/North Medford HS) suffered the loss for the Waves, allowing five runs (three earned) off four hits and struck out one and walked two. Eric Karch (Fresno, Calif./Clovis West HS) tossed a scoreless eighth, while Evan Dunn (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman HS) blanked the Titans in the ninth with a pair of strikeouts.

Greg Velazquez went 3-for-3 with a solo home run in the fourth to lead Cal State Fullerton. Bryan Conant (1-0) collected the win in relief, tossing 2.0 innings with three strikeouts and did not allow a base runner.

Pepperdine returns to West Coast Conference action when it welcomes Gonzaga to Malibu for a big series, beginning Friday, April 19. First pitch of game one against the league-leading Bulldogs is set for 3:00 p.m. in a contest featuring live video streaming via WaveCasts.
