MALIBU, Calif.- The Pepperdine baseball team dropped game of the West Coast Conference series at Eddy D. Field Stadium 7-2 on Friday afternoon.

The bats were stifled by Dons' (23-26, 9-7 WCC) starter Abe Bobb, who held the Waves (24-18, 7-6 WCC) scoreless through the first seven innings, limiting them to one hit during that span. Bobb went the distance, allowing only two runs, one earned, on four hits.

All of the Waves' hits on the day came from Zach Vincej (Saugus, Calif./Saugus HS) and Austin Davidson(Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard HS), who had two apiece. Vincej went 2-for-4 and Davidson went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Jon Moscot(Pacific Palisades, Calif./Cuesta College) took the loss for the Waves as he went 7.0 innings, allowing five runs on 11 hits and one walk. He also collected four strikeouts.

The Dons jumped to an early lead in the top of the first and forced the Waves to play catch up all day. Despite the Dons loading the bases in the third and fourth innings, Moscot and the Waves minimized the damage allowing only single runs in each inning, putting the score at 3-0 after four.

In the top of the sixth, the Dons took advantage of a Waves' throwing error and an RBI single to push their lead to 5-0.

The Waves finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh, as they benefitted from a San Francisco error that turned a Davidson single into a triple. Second baseman Joe Sever(San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep) drove in Davidson with a sacrifice fly to center field to put the score at 5-1.

In the top of the ninth the Dons plated two more runs off Waves' reliever Mat Snider(Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos HS) and the Waves were down 7-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Vincej drilled his second hit of the day up the middle and came around to score as Davidson doubled down the right field line in the next at bat. However, Bobb got the final two outs to leave the score at 7-2.

The Waves will look to even the series on Saturday as the Dons come back for game two. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
