Maurer's Gem Clinches Blue Orange World Series For Team Orange

Matt Mauer tossed seven scoreless innings to push Team Orange to series triumph

Malibu, Calif. – On a breathtaking fall day in Malibu, Team Orange took game five of the 2012 Blue Orange World Series by a score of 6-1 at Eddy D. Field Stadium.  Matt Maurer out-dueled Scott Frazier by throwing seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks.

Team Orange battled back from a two games to none deficit and outscored Team Blue 22-6 in the final three games.

Maurer and Frazier were locked in a pitcher’s duel for five innings.  Team Orange broke through in the top of the six.  With one out Frazier hit senior first baseman Sam MeyerChris Amezquita and Aaron Brown followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases.  Freshman Devin Carter delivered the big blow, ripping a bases clearing double to knock Frazier out of the game.  Team Blue scored two more on a two-run single by Hutton Moyer.

Frazier struck out eight in 5.1 innings in the loss.  Freshmen Cody Nulph and Brad Anderson each collected a pair of hits for Team Blue.  Bryan Langlois drove in Team Blue’s only run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth to break up the shutout bid.

Moyer and Aaron Brown were named co-MVPs of the series.  Moyer hit .476 (10-21) with seven RBI and five runs scored.  Brown hit .333 (8-24) with four RBI and clubbed the only home run of the series.  The sophomore also threw six innings for the victory in game three.



The Waves begin the defense of their West Coast Conference crown on February 13, 2013 against Western Michigan.
