Corey Miller Named WCC Pitcher of the Week
Miller Tossed 10 Scoreless Innings with 10 Strikeouts Saturday vs. Washington
April 8, 2013
MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine's Corey Miller turned in one of the finest pitching performances of 2013 and captured West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week honors in the process. Tossing a complete game shutout is tough enough, but Saturday against the University of Washington, Miller (Laguna Nigel, Calif./Serra HS) threw 10 scoreless innings.
Miller allowed just three hits and posted a career-high 10 strikeouts. The junior righthander retired the first 12 batters he faced and lowered his ERA to 2.40. Miller did not walk a single batter and threw 118 pitches, 78 for strikes. Although he did not factor in the decision, Pepperdine won 1-0 in the 11th inning.
It is the first Pitcher of the Week accolade for Miller and the first for a Wave this season. Sam Meyer (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis HS) and Austin Davidson (Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard HS) each captured WCC Player of the Week honors this season.
NEXT FOR THE WAVES: Pepperdine wraps up its four-game homestand when it welcomes UC Santa Barbara to Malibu Tuesday, April 9. First pitch against the Gauchos is set for 3:00 p.m. from Eddy D. Field Stadium in a contest featuring live streaming video via WaveCasts.
