Sever and Vincej Earn Honorable Mention All-America Status from

MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine middle infielders Joe Sever and Zach Vincej have both been named Honorable Mention All-America selections, it was announced today.

Sever (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep) earned the honor from for the first time in his career. The junior finished the 2012 season as the West Coast Conference Player of the Year after hitting .417 in conference play. Overall on the year he batted .366 and collected 53 RBI. He finished among the conference leaders in multiple categories, including conference batting average (.417), hits (40) and doubles (10). He notched a pair of home runs and 10 doubles- good for a .583 slugging percentage. Despite frequently being pitched around in key situations, he drove in 23 runs and scored 20 as the Waves won the WCC title. Sever was also named to the WCC All-Conference team, and was a second team All-American according to Perfect Game, Collegiate Baseball and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). He also earned ABCA Rawlings All-West Region first team honors.

The Waves' slick-fielding shortstop Vincej (Saugus, Calif./Saugus HS), the winner of the Brooks Wallace Award as the nation's top collegiate shortstop also earned honorable mention honors. The junior finished the season with only four errors and a fielding percentage of .986. Vincej also batted .339 through 59 games, tallying 23 RBI, a conference-leading 18 doubles and two home runs from his leadoff position. He also earned All-WCC honors for the second time in his career and was named a second team ABCA Rawlings All-West Region selection and earned the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove.
