Sever Named a New York Penn League All-Star
Sever's stellar play in his first season of professional ball landed him a spot as an all-star.

MALIBU, Calif. - Joe Sever, the 21st round pick by the Cleveland Indians in the 2012 MLB First Year Draft, was named a New York Penn League All-Star as he is having a stellar first season in professional baseball for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. For his play, Sever was selected to the all-star team as a designated hitter and will be joined by current teammates Joe Wendle, Luis DeJesus, Jacob Lee and Charlie Valerio on the American League All-Star roster.
In short season A ball, Sever (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep) is batting .287 through 28 games played. He has collected 11 RBI and tallied one home run along with six doubles. His batting average is fourth-best on the Scrappers and he boasts an on base percentage of .382. Sever finished up his junior year at Pepperdine as the West Coast Conference Player of the Year after leading the WCC with a .417 conference batting average.
The NYPL All-Star Game is set for August 14 at Mahoning Valley's Eastwood Field at 7:35 p.m. ET, following the Trumbull County Tourism Bureau Home Run Derby at 5:30 p.m. ET. Tickets are available starting at just $10. The Scrappers staff will coach the American League.
