MALIBU, Calif. --- Pepperdine Baseball Head Coach Steve Rodriguez announced the signing of LHP/OF Isaiah Deutsch to a National Letter of Intent this week. Deutsch is a 6-1 athlete hailing from Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, Ariz.

The southpaw is the sixth-ranked Arizona outfielder in the 2014 class according to Perfect Game and is in the top 150 nationally.

“Isaiah is a quality left-handed pitcher with Team USA experience,” said Rodriguez. “He has competed against some of the best competition in the world for years. Isaiah is a very versatile player who will compete for action on the mound and in the outfield in the years to come.”

Deutsch earned Perfect Game All-American and All-Region honors in 2013 and was a member of the Team USA 14U National Team. He also played for the Arizona Diamondbacks scout team.

Deutsch posted a 0.81 ERA in 24.2 innings pitched last season, striking out 29 batters while walking just four.  He began his high school career under Tom Succow at Brophy College Prep and then finished up at Desert Vista, playing for Stan Luketich.

“I really like the school’s culture, values, baseball traditions and academic standards,” said Deutsch on why he chose to come to Malibu.
