Pepperdine Signs Jamie Westbrook for 2014 Season

MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine baseball is pleased to announce the signing of 5-10 INF Jamie Westbrook (Chandler, Ariz./Basha HS) to a National Letters of Intent to compete at Pepperdine in the 2014 season as released today by head coach Steve Rodriguez.

Pepperdine Baseball will release a new member of its 2014 class every Thursday on the official website of Pepperdine Athletics,

JAMIE WESTBROOK, 5-10, 175, INF (Basha HS)
A highly decorated prep player, Westbrook earned Chandler Unified School District and East Valley Tribune Player of the Year honors last season in addition to all-Arizona Republic, all-AZBCA and all-region first team honors. An ESPNHS and All-American selection, Westbrook competed in the Area Code Games with the Cincinnati Reds and was a member of the Diamondbacks Scout Team ELITE. evaluated Westbrook as the No. 6 player in Arizona and No. 23 among all prep shortstops in the nation.

An outstanding student, Westbrook turned in a 4.5 GPA and was a two-time student of the month and ranks No. 25 academically in his senior class of 619 students. Westbrook earned a grant for his senior service project which shipped baseball equipment to the Dominican Republic. He also volunteered with the Vested Interest Group to donate and provide food for impoverished members of the Guadalupe Indian Reservation.

Sporting event you would most like to attend: College Football National Championship game

What is your most exciting/thrilling moment in your sports career? “My most thrilling experience in my sporting career was when my high school team played a 13-inning game in the Arizona Diamondbacks Stadium. There was a huge crowd to watch this rivalry game and it was awesome to play under pressure.”

What do you want to accomplish on and off the field at Pepperdine? “On the field I want to win multiple WCC titles, eventually resulting in a College World Series title. Off the field I look forward to stepping out of my comfort zone, meeting new people, and fully enjoying the college experience.”
