MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine Baseball Head Coach Steve Rodriguez announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Kodi Medeiros to a National Letter of Intent this week. Medeiros is a highly-touted hurler hailing from Hilo, Hawaii.
The 6-1 lefty is the top-ranked LHP in the nation according to Perfect Game and is the No. 5 overall prospect nationally.
“Kodi is the top high school left-handed pitcher in the country and we are very excited he chose Pepperdine over the many amazing options he had in front of him,” said Rodriguez. “He will come in and compete immediately for a top role on the weekend.”
Medeiros was a 2011 Senior Little League World Series Champion and 2011 Waiakea High School State Champion. Individually he garnered national honors when he was named a 2013 Perfect Game All-American.
Also playing outfield and first base, Medeiros batted .585 with 36 RBI and four home runs last season. Throwing limited innings for his high school team he struck out 19 batters and gave up just seven hits in 11.2 innings of work.
“I chose Pepperdine because the school itself is a real nice place,” said Medeiros in a recent interview. “It’s sort of like Hilo – the weather’s the same – and it’s a small school so the education is really good there. It made my decision pretty easy once I made my visit there.”
The high school senior also played in the Perfect Game WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Fla. with the Ohio Warhawks and competed in the PG National Showcase held in the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn.
