MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine baseball is pleased to announce the signing of 6-0 LHP Jon Reid (Pomona, Calif./Bonita HS) to a National Letters of Intent to compete at Pepperdine in the 2014 season as released today by head coach Steve Rodriguez.

JON REID, 6-0, 170, LHP (Bonita HS)
A two-year letter-winner at Bonita High School, Reid is a two-time all-Sierra League selection. Last summer Reid competed for the SGV Arsenal and Mariners Select squads and played in the 2012 Angels Elite and the SoCalScoutBall All-Star Game. A Dean’s List student, Reid was an instructor at youth baseball camps the last two summers and served with the Junior Beta Club.

Why Reid Chose Pepperdine: “I chose Pepperdine because of the academic reputation of the university, the athletic tradition of Pepperdine, the quality and reputation of the Wave coaching staff and the fact that Pepperdine is a Christian, faith-based institution. It is important to me that Pepperdine is in a good, competitive conference, and the view from the ball park is hard to beat.”

Coach Rodriguez on Reid: “Jon Reid has plus pitchability which makes him a tremendous asset to our staff.  He is a great young man who can fill many roles for us and his actions off the field prove that he is a great fit for Pepperdine.”

What is your most exciting/thrilling moment in your sports career
?  In a recent fall league, with the Angels Elite, I struck out nine of 10 collegiate batters that I faced.
What do you want to accomplish on and off the field at Pepperdine
? I want to win consecutive WCC titles and a College World Series Championship.  I also want to grow as a student and a man of God, not just as an athlete.
