FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Senior center Corbin Moore posted his second double-double of the season and sophomore forward Hector Harold made two crucial second-half baskets as the Pepperdine men's basketball team won at Northern Arizona, 49-40, on Wednesday night.

The Waves (5-3) are off to their best start since 2004-05, and they've already won three true road games this season, their most since 2007-08. They ended a nine-game home winning streak by Northern Arizona (2-7).

It was largely done via defense, as the Waves held the Lumberjacks to 15 first-half points and to 28.8% shooting for the game.

"A lot of it is just our guys believing, our guys playing together, our guys buying into our motto, `Both Feet In,' sharing the ball, executing, playing for each other," Pepperdine Coach Marty Wilson said. "Tonight we did it more so on the defensive end. Shots weren't going in, and we missed some shots that some of our guys would normally make. But we defended when we needed to. We contested shots and we made them try to make tough shots."

Moore (Cypress, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) had 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Harold (Pasadena, Calif./Northfield Mount Hermon School) scored a career-high seven points.

Though Pepperdine led nearly the entire game and by as many as 12 points, the Waves had a seven-minute stretch in the second half where they went without a field goal, allowing NAU to cut the lead to 39-35 with five minutes left.

Harold finally ended the drought with a putback. And then about a minute and a half later, after an NAU basket, Harold nailed a three-pointer from the left corner to put Pepperdine ahead 44-37 with 3:16 to go. The Lumberjacks wouldn't score again until the final seconds.

The Waves shot 40.5% as a team and had a 38-28 rebounding edge, but 15 turnovers helped the Lumberjacks stay in the game. NAU committed only eight and had a 16-4 advantage in points off turnovers.

Sophomore guard Nikolas Skouen (Bergen, Norway/Pratt CC) scored eight points, senior forward Taylor Darby (San Marcos, Calif./Mission Hills HS) and junior guard Joshua Lowery (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS) each had seven points and five rebounds and junior guard Caleb Willis (Stockbridge, Ga./Stockbridge HS) had five points, five rebounds and four assists.

NAU scored the first four points of the game, but Pepperdine recorded the next seven and never trailed again. Freshman forward Ramon Eaton (Sacramento, Calif./Sheldon HS) gave Pepperdine a 10-point lead at 18-8 with 10:59 to play. Though the Waves also had a first-half spell where they went more than seven minutes without a field goal, the Lumberjacks got no closer than five points and the Waves finished the half strong to take a 25-15 lead at halftime.

Pepperdine led by 12 early in the second half, though NAU cut it to three points at 31-28 with less than 15 minutes left. Skouen began an 8-2 run with five points and the Waves pushed their lead back up to nine points at 39-30 with nine minutes to go.

Though Skouen's three-pointer at 11:58 would be the Waves' last field goal until Harold's putback with five minutes to play, NAU was unable to take advantage.

The Lumberjacks got 10 points apiece from Stallon Saldivar and James Douglas.

Pepperdine hosts a doubleheader this Saturday (Dec. 10). The women's team faces Oregon State at 4 p.m. and the men face Cal State Northridge at 7 p.m. Fans can watch both games via WaveCasts at
