MALIBU, Calif. - Following a terrific five-year career in which he etched his name prominently in the Pepperdine men's basketball team's records book, Lorne Jackson has been invited to take part in a Washington Wizards mini-camp, the organization announced today.
The mini-camp takes place this week, and Jackson is one of 15 players that have been invited. If Jackson can stick with the team, he'll be part of Washington's NBA Summer League squad, which begins play on July 13 in Las Vegas.
It could be the second straight year that a Pepperdine product has taken part in the NBA Summer League. Mychel Thompson played with the New York Knicks in 2012.
The Wizards will be one of 21 NBA teams in action at UNLV from July 12-22. Teams will play a minimum of five games and many contests will be shown on NBA TV. Washington's first three games are against Golden State (Saturday, July 13, 1 p.m. PT), New York (Sunday, July 14, 1 p.m. PT) and Denver (Tuesday, July 16, 7 p.m. PT).
Jackson earned All-West Coast Conference honorable mention as a 2010-11 junior, then repeated the honor as a 2012-13 senior after having to sit out a year due to knee surgery. He averaged 13.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals this past season.
Jackson ended his career ranked #20 on Pepperdine's career scoring list with 1,297 points. On other career charts, he also finished tied for second in games played (125), fourth in steals (159), sixth in free throw percentage (77.4%) and seventh in three-pointers made (144).
