MALIBU, Calif. - After leading the Pepperdine men's basketball team to two road victories last week, sophomore forward Stacy Davis was named the West Coast Conference's Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Davis (Laveen, Ariz./Fairfax HS) averaged 23.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks and shot 71.4% from the field as Pepperdine won at both UC Riverside and Central Michigan last week. He had 23 points and nine rebounds against the Highlanders and sank the go-ahead free throws with 33.7 seconds left in a 69-66 win. He then had a career-high-tying 24 points along with seven rebounds in an 88-71 win over the Chippewas.

Davis, last year's WCC Newcomer of the Year, currently ranks first in the conference with a 23.7 scoring average.

Before this past week, Davis had never made a collegiate three-pointer. He went 2-for-2 against UCR, and 2-for-2 again against CMU, making him 4-for-4 on the season. He shot 71.4% from the field in both games (5-for-7 at UCR, 10-for-14 at CMU). He set single-game career highs from the free throw line (11-for-16) at UC Riverside.

Davis' play has helped lift Pepperdine to its best start in a long time. The Waves are 3-0 for the first time since 1998-99. Pepperdine won its first back-to-back road games since November 2007, and the 17-point margin of victory at CMU was Pepperdine's biggest on the road since December 2007.

This is Pepperdine's first WCC Player of the Week honor since December 2010.

Davis has scored 24, 23 and 24 points in his first three games this season. He was the first Wave to score at least 23+ points in the first two games of the season since 1987-88 (something still true after three games). No one in the last 40 years (as far back as statistics are available) has scored 23 points in each of the first four games of the season.

Davis will have a chance to extend his streak at home this week. The Waves host San Jose State on Wednesday (Nov. 20) at 7 p.m. and Utah Valley on Saturday (Nov. 23) at 5 p.m. Fans can watch both games via WaveCasts at www.pepperdinesports.com with Al Epstein on the call.
