Parker Page of the Pepperdine men's golf team earned his first collegiate victory on Tuesday, as he took co-medalist honors at the Folino Invitational with a 1-under 215. As a team, the Waves placed second.
Page (Louisville, Ky./Ballard HS) shared top honors with Loyola Marymount's Tyler Torano. Both schools decided to forego a playoff since both teams had players that needed to get back to campus for evening classes.
Page played consistent golf over the three days at the par-72 Eisenhower course at the Industry Hills Golf Club, shooting 72-71-72. He entered the final round tied for third place. He had two birdies and two bogeys during his final even-par round.
Pepperdine was the first-round leader as a team, but fell two strokes behind Long Beach State after the second round. The Waves couldn't make up any ground on the 49ers on Tuesday, as both teams shot 296. Pepperdine finished with a total of an 881 (292-293-296) to Long Beach State's 879.
"We had some good things happen," Pepperdine Coach John Geiberger said. "We had some good rounds going this week, but didn't always finish. Today, we didn't always have our best stuff. But I'm seeing movement in the right direction for what we did these three days. Parker gutted it out and did a good job."
The Waves had two other top 10 finishers. Senior Josh Anderson (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS) tied for fourth place at 218 (71-71-76) and junior Johnny Mac Arthur (Newhall, Calif./Hart HS) took eighth place at 219 (72-73-74). It was Anderson's fourth top 10 finish in six tournaments this season, and Mac Arthur's second. Both have five top 20 results in six starts. Mac Arthur scored an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole today.
Additionally, sophomore Alex Forss (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak HS) tied for 25th place at 229 (77-78-74) and freshman Kevin DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita HS) tied for 42nd place at 238 (78-78-82).
Competing as an individual, freshman Caston Roberts (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert Christian HS) had a season-best finish, as he tied for 18th place at 225 (75-71-79). Also, sophomore Andreas Adler (Parkview, Hong Kong/Hills International College) tied for 53rd at 251 (83-86-82).
The Waves will be hosting next week's North Ranch Intercollegiate at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday (Feb. 27) and the final 18 on Tuesday (Feb. 28).
