Frederick Wedel's tie for fourth place.
Co-host USC won the tournament, held at the par-71 North Ranch Country Club, with an 11-over 863. West Coast Conference rival Brigham Young was second at 872 and the Waves were next at 875 (292-282-301).
The Trojans also had the individual medalist, with Yi Keun Chang's 2-under 211 ending up one stroke better than BYU's Zachary Blair.
The Waves' previous best finish was fifth place at the Warrior Wave Princeville Intercollegiate, also co-hosted by Pepperdine but held in Hawaii, in the fall. This was the second tournament under new head coach Michael Beard.
"We have a fairly young team and I've only been with these guys a couple of months now, so it's been pretty neat to see that the practice that they've been putting in is paying off," Beard said. "I feel like this week proved that we can compete with some good teams. I really liked how our guys prepared for this event and it was great to see it pay off with a strong finish."
The tournament enjoyed great weather over the two days, though stronger winds pushed scores a bit higher on Tuesday.
Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands), a freshman, recorded his second career top-five finish. He ended up with a 3-over 216 (74-68-74). He had three birdies during his final round and a team-high nine over the two days. Wedel tied for the tournament's best score on the par-5s over the three rounds, going 7-under.
In addition to Wedel, three other Waves in the lineup posted season-best finishes. Junior Jeremy Sanders (Chatsworth, Calif./New Community Jewish HS/Univ. of Redlands) tied for 10th place at 220 (73-71-76), sophomore Kevin DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS) tied for 15th at 223 (80-68-75) and freshman Cody McManus (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS) also tied for 15th at 223 (72-75-76).
Playing as an individual and competing in his first collegiate tournament, redshirt freshman Nick Thomas (Westlake Village, Calif./Chaminade College Prep/California) also came in a tie for 15th place at 223 (78-73-72). His 1-over on Tuesday was the low score among all nine Waves at the event and included three birdies. His 37 pars over the three rounds led the team and was one off the tournament's best.
The fifth member of the lineup, junior Parker Page (Louisville, Ky./Ballard HS), tied for 30th place at 226 (73-76-77).
The three other individuals were sophomore Andrew Morris (Cape Town, South Africa/Rondebosch Boys HS), who tied for 41st at 229 (77-73-79); sophomore Caston Roberts (Gilbert, Ariz./Gibert Christian HS), who tied for 58th at 237 (80-77-80); and freshman Cameron Davison (Duncan, B.C./Duncan Christian HS), who took 64th at 241 (76-78-87).
This was USC's tournament from 1978-2011, though Pepperdine stepped in and ran it last year when the Trojans were hosting the NCAA Championships. This is the first year that the two schools co-hosted the event.
"North Ranch is such a great place," Beard said. "It's kind of unique how the membership gets involved in the event and get excited about watching collegiate golf. It was great to host the event with USC and to welcome such a strong field to North Ranch Country Club."
The Waves will be back in action at the San Diego Intercollegiate on March 11-12.
