TEMPE, Ariz. - Kevin DeHuff and Frederick Wedel had career-best finishes - both tied for fourth place - to help the Pepperdine men's golf team to an impressive fourth-place result at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational on Sunday.

The Waves were 10th after Friday's first round, then moved into a tie for fifth after Saturday's second round. Pepperdine closed strong at the par-71 Karsten Golf Course with a 2-under 282, giving the Waves a three-day total of a 4-under 848 (288-278-282). It tied for the second-best round of the day and allowed the Waves to pass Iowa State and Wichita State. They ended up just one shot behind Arizona.

The fourth-place finish was the team's best of the season, and the score of 4-under was the second-best 54-hole tally behind a 9-under at the Princeville Intercollegiate in the fall.

Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS), a sophomore, matched his best finish, as he also tied for fourth at the 2013 North Ranch Intercollegiate. He posted career-best scores for a single round (a 5-under 66 on Sunday) and 54 holes (6-under). He had seven birdies today, including four in his final five holes. Wedel made a huge charge after being tied for 53rd after the first round and tied for 19th after the second. He shot 74-67-66 for a total of 207 over the three days.

DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS), a junior, posted his second straight career-best finish after tying for 11th place at the recent San Diego Classic. He picked up his first-ever top-10 finish, also with a 6-under 207 (67-71-69). The 54-hole score of 6-under was also a career best for DeHuff, who had four birdies on Sunday as he shot 2-under for the day.

DeHuff and Wedel both had 16 birdies over the three days, tied for second most in the tournament.

Senior Jeremy Sanders (Chatsworth, Calif./New Community Jewish HS/Redlands) also had a strong showing over the weekend, tying for eighth place with a 4-under 209 (70-67-72).

Freshman Robin Kang (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./South Torrance HS) tied for 62nd at 225 (77-73-75) and sophomore Nick Thomas (Westlake Village, Calif./Chaminade College Prep/California) took 70th at 228 (78-74-76).

Pepperdine also picked up a head-to-head win over West Coast Conference rival San Diego.
