BREMERTON, Wash. - Junior Kevin DeHuff had the Pepperdine men's golf team best round of the day and is tied for third place at the West Coast Conference Championships, and the Waves are in fifth place after Monday's first round.
After a 2-over 290 at the par-72 Gold Mountain Golf Club, the Waves are just five shots off the lead. BYU is at 285, followed by Pacific at 286 and Santa Clara and San Francisco both at 288. The second round is Tuesday and the third and final round is Wednesday.

DeHuff had an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole and two birdies, and his only miscue was a double-bogey on eight.
Sophomores Frederick Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) and David Pelekoudas (Irvine, Calif./University HS/Orange Coast CC) are tied for 15th place after even-par 72s. Wedel had three birdies and Pelekoudas had two.
Sophomore Nick Thomas (Westlake Village, Calif./Chaminade College Prep/California) is tied for 32nd after a 76. It was feast or famine for Thomas, who had a team-high five birdies. Senior Jeremy Sanders (Chatsworth, Calif./New Community Jewish HS/Redlands) is tied for 40th after a 78.
