PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - An eagle and a pair of birdies highlighted Pepperdine senior Josh Anderson's second round on Wednesday at the 2012 NCAA Men's Golf Championships.

Unfortunately, Anderson (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS) dropped on the leaderboard after finishing his round with a 5-over 76. He's now tied for 59th place with a 6-over 148 (72-76).

The third and final round of stroke play is on Thursday at the par-71 Riviera Country Club. Anderson will start off the first tee at 2:10 p.m. There are 156 golfers at the competition.

"(The course) was scoreable, but unfortunately I didn't play too well today," Anderson said. "It was a tough day for me ... (The eagle) felt good. I thought it was maybe going to turn the round around, but unfortunately I had a bad finish."

Off the course, Anderson was named to the PING/GCAA All-West Region team today.

Starting on the 10th hole, Anderson got off to a good start with a birdie on the par-5 11th. His first two shots left him about 20 yards from the hole, and after he chipped in to within two feet, Anderson made the putt on his fourth shot.

Anderson then ran into some trouble, bogeying four straight holes between 13 and 16. He bounced back with a birdie on the par-5 17th hole. Despite hitting a bunker with his tee shot, his second shot got him back in the middle of the fairway, and his third shot stopped about a foot away from the hole, leading to an easy putt.

But Anderson would bogey the 18th hole, putting his round at 3-over when he made the turn.

Anderson continued his mastery of the course's par-5 holes at #1 with an eagle. His first two shots put him on the green with a 12-foot putt, and he sank it to get back to 1-over on the day.

After a bogey on the second hole, Anderson ran off five straight pars between holes three and seven. It was beginning to look reminiscent of Tuesday's first round, when he finished his day with 10 consecutive pars, but Anderson's second round ended with a bogey on eight and a double-bogey on nine.

The individual leader is Illinois' Thomas Pieters with a 5-under 137.

Anderson, who won the 2012 NCAA West Regional at Stanford, is making his second appearance at the NCAA Championships. He tied for 106th place in 2011 in Stillwater, Okla. This is the seventh time a Pepperdine individual has advanced to the NCAA Championships without the rest of the team.
