Waves Finish MacKenzie Invitational With Strong Third Round

Jeremy Sanders' 4-under 68, the Pepperdine men's golf team had a strong third and final round at California's Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Tuesday.
Sanders' performance helped the Waves to post a 2-under 286 at the par-72 Sonoma Golf Club, allowing Pepperdine to jump two teams and finish in 12th place overall. The Waves ended with a total of a 10-over 874 (291-297-286).
Sanders (Chatsworth, Calif./New Community Jewish HS/Redlands) had a total of six birdies during his third round. He was at 1-under before recording birdies on three of his final four holes. The good day moved him up more than 20 spots on the leaderboard and into a tie for 45th place with a 3-over 219 (76-75-68). The 4-under was Sanders' best single-round score in his time at Pepperdine.
Junior Kevin DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS) had the best finish for the Waves, as he tied for 27th place with an even-par 216 (69-75-72). His final round included four birdies. The even-par finish was the second-best score of his college career.
Additionally, sophomore Frederick Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) tied for 45th place at 219 (73-74-72), senior Parker Page (Louisville, Ky./Ballard HS) tied for 51st at 221 (74-73-74) and sophomore Nick Thomas (Westlake Village, Calif./Chaminade College Prep/California) tied for 73rd at 229 (75-76-78). Wedel had four birdies and Page had three on Tuesday.
The Waves play their third of four fall tournaments at the Bill Cullum Invitational, hosted by Cal State Northridge, next Monday and Tuesday (October 21-22) at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, Calif.
