MALIBU, Calif. -- The Pepperdine men's golf team has been peaking at just the right time as the Waves near the end of the spring season. Led by second-year head coach Michael Beard, the Waves hope that their best golf is still ahead of them as they take part in the West Coast Conference Championships next week. Pepperdine has won 17 league titles, more than any other school, but will need to add to that total to earn a spot in an NCAA Regional.

EVENT INFO -- For the second straight year, the tournament will be held at the par-72, 7,007-yard Gold Mountain Golf Club, located in Bremerton, Wash. Teams will play 18 holes each day between Monday and Wednesday (April 14-16). Live scoring will be available at

Beard competed for the Waves between 1999-2002 and was a GCAA All-American honorable mention selection in both 2000 and 2002. He was the medalist at the 2000 NCAA West Regional and the 2002 WCC Championships and was a four-time All-WCC first teamer. He still ranks first in total rounds played (162) and fourth in career scoring average (72.72) at Pepperdine. ABOUT PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY -- Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports - one of just 16 schools to have accomplished this feat - and nine overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest undergraduate enrollment and is the only school not affiliated with a BCS-level conference. The Waves have earned the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy, an award based on postseason success that's given to the top non-football school, three times (most recently in 2011-12). Located in scenic Malibu, Calif., the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #57 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges.
