Four Men's & Women's Golfers Earn WCC All-Academic First Team Honors

MALIBU, Calif. - Four members of the Pepperdine women's and men's golf teams - Liv Cheng, Alina Ching, Kevin DeHuff and Nick Thomas - have earned West Coast Conference All-Academic first team honors, the league office announced today.
It's Cheng's third time receiving WCC All-Academic first team honors, while Ching and DeHuff both collected the award for the second time.
In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must have at minimum a 3.20 grade-point average, have at least sophomore standing and have participated in at least 50 percent of the season's events.
Cheng (Auckland, New Zealand/Macleans College) and Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) helped the women's golf team to its 13th consecutive WCC title last week. Cheng, a senior economics major, tied for second place at the event. She's third on the team with a career-best 74.22 scoring average. Ching, a junior psychology major, took 14th place. Cheng is a two-time WGCA All-American Scholar, while Ching earned the award in 2012.
DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS) and Thomas (Westlake Village, Calif./Chaminade College Prep/California) were both in the lineup as the Waves tied for fifth place at the WCC Championships last week. DeHuff, a junior business administration major, is third on the team with a career-best 74.03 scoring average. The WCC's Player of the Month for March, he tied for 21st place at the WCC Championships. Thomas, a redshirt sophomore economics major, tied for 38th at the event.
Pepperdine's women's team, ranked eighth nationally by Golfweek/Sagarin, is now preparing for NCAA Regional play. The field will be announced on Monday (April 28). Regionals will be held at three different sites between May 8-10. There's also the possibility that one or two individuals from the men's team could be picked to advance to an NCAA Regional. That will be announced on May 5, and regionals will be held May 15-17.
