MALIBU, Calif. -- Pepperdine men's golfer Josh Anderson extended his college career with a record-setting performance that enabled him to win the NCAA West Regional by two strokes. Next up for Anderson is the NCAA Championships, which quite conveniently will be held just about 15 miles south of Pepperdine's campus at Riviera Country Club. Anderson, a senior, will be looking to put an exclamation point on one of the top golf careers in Pepperdine history.

The individual national championship will be contested over 54 holes, with a single round each day between Tuesday and Thursday (May 29-31). The top eight teams will advance to the match-play finals from Friday through Sunday (June 1-3). Live scoring will be provided at and/or

NCAA NOTES -- Pepperdine won the 1997 NCAA team championship ... The Waves' best-ever individual finishes were by Michael Putnam (T-1st in 2005 but lost in a playoff) and Jason Gore (T-3rd in 1997) ... The Waves have had five top-10 and seven top-20 individual finishes ... This is the seventh time a Pepperdine individual has advanced to the NCAA Championships without the rest of the team (the last one to do it was Eric Shriver in 2008).

ANDERSON -- Senior Josh Anderson (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS) will depart Pepperdine as one of the most accomplished players in the program's history. He heads to his final collegiate tournament after winning medalist honors at the NCAA West Regional at Stanford, held May 17-19. His performance there was remarkable, as he shot a 14-under 196, the second-best 54-hole score in Pepperdine history, to win by two strokes. He shot multiple strokes below par each day, and bettered his score each round (67-65-64). The 6-under 64 in the final round tied a career best.

Anderson, who is currently rated #47 nationally by Golfweek/Sagarin and #54 by Golfstat, leads this year's squad with a 71.19 stroke average, which currently ranks as the third-best single-season average in school history. In 13 tournaments, he's been in the top 10 eight times (prior to his win at the NCAA West Regional, his bests this season were ties for second place at both the Husky Invitational and the Barona Collegiate Cup) and in the top 20 11 times.

Anderson was recently named to the All-WCC first team for the fourth time, becoming the sixth player in Pepperdine history to earn that acclaim all four seasons. He's third all-time for the Waves with a 72.66 career scoring average. He's now won three career tournaments, previously posting victories at the General Hackler Championship in spring 2010 and the Husky Invitational in fall 2010. Among other school career records, he also ranks tied for third in top 20 finishes (31), tied for fourth in top 10 results (21), tied for fourth in wins (three), fourth in sub-par rounds (43) and sixth in total rounds played (149).

It's believed that Anderson became the first active Pepperdine player to compete in a PGA Tour event when he took part in the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines in February 2009, and he participated in the 2011 event as well (then known as the Farmers Insurance Open). Both times, he won single-day amateur qualifiers to make the field.

This is Anderson's second appearance at the NCAA Championships. He tied for 106th place at the 2011 event in Stillwater, Okla.

He became the second Wave to win an NCAA Regional, following in the footsteps of Michael Beard, who won the 2000 NCAA West Regional in Fresno, Calif. Anderson was no stranger to regional success, as he placed in top 20 all four years with three results in the top 10 (T-5th in 2009, T-17th in 2010 and T-7th in 2011).

GEIBERGER -- The 2011-12 season marks John Geiberger's 16th as head coach of Pepperdine. In his first season as coach of the Waves, Geiberger led the team to the 1997 NCAA national title, the first in team history. Under Geiberger's guidance, Pepperdine has won the WCC title 10 times (1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2010) and he has earned the league's Coach of the Year honors on five occasions (1997, 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2005).

PEPPERDINE GOLF HISTORY -- Thanks to its victory at the 1997 NCAA Championships, Pepperdine will always be known on a national level for its outstanding men's golf program. The Waves have made eight appearances at the NCAA Championships since 1993 and have NCAA Regional berths in 19 of the last 21 years. In the West Coast Conference, they've won 17 championships since 1987 and have finished either first or second in 21 of the last 26 years.

ABOUT PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY -- Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports - one of just 16 schools to have accomplished this feat - and nine overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest enrollment and is the only school not in a major conference. Located in scenic Malibu, Calif., the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #55 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges. The 2011-12 school year marks Pepperdine's 75th anniversary.
