MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine alum Jeff Gove is returning to the PGA Tour in 2013 thanks to a tie for 10th place at the Q-School Final Stage in La Quinta, Calif. at the PGA West course.
The top 25 finishers at the marathon six-day, six-round event earned spots on next year's tour. Gove shot a 21-under 411 (69-69-68-67-71-67). The last group of golfers to earn their PGA Tour cards finished at 17-under. Gove birdied four of his final seven holes on Monday, including the last two, to go from the bubble to qualifying with room to spare.
Gove, who was a standout for the Waves between 1990-93, will be on the PGA Tour for the seventh time (2000, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010).
Three other former Pepperdine golfers were also in action at Q-School, and they'll play on the Web.com Tour in 2013. Michael Putnam and Byron Smith tied for 64th place with 11-under 421s, and Andrew Putnam tied for 73rd place with a 10-under 422. Two other Pepperdine alums, Jason Allred and Jason Gore, also have Web.com Tour status in 2013.
One other player earning PGA Tour status has a Pepperdine connection. Steven Bowditch, who tied for 10th place, is the brother of Pepperdine women's assistant coach Leanne Craig.
