MALIBU, Calif. -   Megan Moore and David Sofaer of the Pepperdine women’s and men’s tennis squads were selected to the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team, the league announced today.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore in both academic and athletic standing, and also be significant contributor to his or her team.

Moore (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) is a junior business administration major and maintains a 3.67 GPA. On the court, Moore has been a fixture in the Waves’ lineup, competing in all 21 dual contests.

In doubles, Moore recently moved up to the No. 1 spot in the doubles lineup alongside Khunpak Issara (Bangkok, Thailand/Bangkok Patana School). The move has proven to be successful, and the pair is a perfect 3-0 from the top spot heading into this weekend’s WCC Tournament.

The women’s team is 10-11 on the season, and tied for first place in the conference standings with a 7-1 record. The Waves are the No. 2 seed at the league tournament and will open action in the semifinal round on Friday, April 26 at 9:30 a.m. at the Barnes Tennis Center.

Sofaer (Bellevue Hill, Australia/Sydney Distance Education HS) is an advertising major with a 3.50 GPA. He is a key component to the success of the men’s squad, currently ranked #8 in the ITA poll.

In singles, Sofaer went 17-6 during the regular season, including a 7-1 record versus WCC opponents. In doubles, Sofaer and Mousheg Hovhannisyan (North Hollywood, Calif./Continental Academy) have chalked a team-best 10 wins.

The men’s squad finished the regular season with a 22-5 record and captured the WCC Regular-Season Championship with a perfect 8-0 mark. Pepperdine is the top seed heading into the conference tournament, and is vying for its 40th official WCC Tournament championship.

This is the second-straight season both Moore and Sofaer have been recognized as first team WCC All-Academic selections.

The 2013 West Coast Conference Tournament kicks off on Friday at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego for both Moore and Sofaer. Links to live scores, brackets and more can be found at the Tournament Central.
