Pepperdine Men's Tennis Assistant Coach Nick Carless has been named the ITA Western Region Assistant Coach of the Year.
“Nick is so deserving of this honor,” said Pepperdine Men’s Head Coach Adam Steinberg. “He’s a rising young star in the world of collegiate coaching. I can’t think of anyone who works as hard or cares as he does. I’m so happy for him and I hope this recognition helps him get the head coaching job he deserves one day.”

In 2008 Carless helped the team reach the Round of 16 and a No.12 national ranking at the end of the season. Steinberg and Carless coached Andre Begemann and Bassam Beidas in the NCAA singles championships as well. Beidas made it to the quarterfinal before being eliminated, while Begemann reached the semifinals. Both athletes were named All-Americans and finished the season with national rankings of No. 22 and No. 5 respectively.
Altmann is the western regional recipient of ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship. The award goes to a player who has exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievement. Altmann was also chosen as the regional nominee for the ITA/Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award. The recipient of both awards will be announced at the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championships.
“Omar is the best sportsman I’ve ever coached,” said Steinberg. “I hope he is highly considered for both awards. He’s a great representative for Pepperdine.”
Altmann was named WCC Men’s Tennis Player of the Year for his achievements this season.
