Assistant Coach

Adam Black begins his first season at Pepperdine as an assistant coach under Marv Dunphy. His responsibilities include scouting opponents and recruiting as well as day-to-day duties.

Black comes to Pepperdine after a three-year stint at Pierce College in Los Angeles where he served as head coach from 2005-06 after spending his first season as an assistant coach.

Prior to his time at Pierce, Black was head coach of Chaminade High School in West Hills, Calif.

Black has experience with coach Dunphy's system, having served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Cal State Northridge women's program in the fall of 2003. He worked under Matador head coach and former Pepperdine All-American setter Jeff Stork.

Black has worked previously with Dunphy during Carl McGown's Gold-Medal² coaching camps which he started working in 2005 and The Marv Dunphy Volleyball camp he has been associtated with since 2002.

A 2001 graduate of Cal State Northridge, Black competed for the Matadors during the 1998-2000 seasons. During the 2001 season, he served as a student assistant for the men's program. He earned his Bachelors degree in Kinesology and added a Masters of Science in 2005 from CSUN.

He is married to the former Crystal Contreras of Palmdale, Calif. The couple was married in June of 2006 and reside in Granada Hills.
