The Waves came out strong in the first set, commanding a 6-1 lead to open the match courtesy of an ace from Harthaller and back-to-back blocks from the `Malibu Roofing Company.' A pair of consecutive aces from Harthaller later in the set earned the Waves a 14-9 lead. After that mark, the Anteaters closed the gap and tied the match 15-15 before working with the advantage en route to a 25-21 set win for the early edge.

The second set opened in similar fashion, with Pepperdine taking hold of a 4-1 lead to start things off. UCI started to close the gap, but the Waves remained tough and extended the lead to 16-9 with kills from Harriman and Cole. Harthaller posted his fifth ace of the night to make it 18-10 and the Waves rolled on from there. A block collaboration from Dyer, Carr and Harriman and a final kill from Harriman made it a 25-16 set win and a 1-1 tie heading into the third.

The script was flipped in the third set with Irvine pulling ahead early 4-1. The Waves tied the match through the 12-12 mark, but the opposition put a few together and worked towards a 25-19 set win.

With the match on the line, the Waves went into the fourth set intent on giving the Anteaters a tough battle. After falling behind 8-5 early in the set, Pepperdine battled back to tie things up at 12's. Each side then went point-for-point en route to a 20-20 tie before the Waves posted a Dyer kill and forced a pair of UCI attack errors for a three-point lead. Pepperdine then had four set-point opportunities, but the Anteaters were able to fight them all off, tie the set at 27-27 and take the two points for the set and match-win.
