Pepperdine came out of the starting gate big on the offensive, amassing 12 kills and three aces throughout the set. The Waves went ahead 8-4 early after an Alex Harthaller ace, but the opposition was able to bring it to a one-point deficit at the 16-15 mark. David Wieczorek found the floor from the service line and he and Max Chamberlain denied the Tigers' attack en route to set-point advantage. Michael Wexter put the final set away 25-20 for the early Waves' lead.

Pepperdine dominated the second set early, amassing a 9-5 lead with aces from Wieczorek and Chamberlain. The Waves continued to pound down with smashes from Chamberlain and Harriman and a block connection from Wieczorek and Chamberlain to make it 20-11 late in the set. A series of kills and a last service error from the other side of the net, the home team collected the 25-15 set win to head into the third with the big advantage.

Despite the Waves' advantage heading into the third set, the opposition came out strong, leading the set throughout its majority towards a 20-17 lead late in the action. Pepperdine tied the set at the 22-22 mark after a Colby Harriman ace and Wieczorek smash. After a few back-and-forth options, a pair of kills from Wieczorek and a match-winning kill from Harriman earned the Waves a 27-25 win and the three-set sweep.
