Men's Volleyball Falls to BYU 3-1
Maurice Torres and Josh Taylor lead Waves with 17 and 12 kills, respectively.

PROVO, Utah – The #5 Pepperdine men’s volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-23, 25-18) loss to top-ranked BYU on Thursday night inside Smith Fieldhouse. Although both Maurice Torres and Josh Taylor reached double figures in kills for the Waves, the Cougars hit .468 as a team to walk away with the victory.
Pepperdine falls to 12-8 on the season and a fifth-place 11-8 in the MPSF. BYU, already with a secure spot in the conference tournament, moves to 18-3 and 17-2 in league action.
Torres (Riverside, Calif./Orange Lutheran HS) finished the night with a tied-for-match-best 17 kills, along with two aces and four digs. Taylor (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) followed with 12 kills earned at a .476 (12 kills-2 errors -21 attempts) clip.
Overall, the Waves nailed down 53 kills while hitting .271 (53-24-107).
The Cougars, amped by a partisan crowd of 3,414, matched the Waves’ 53 kills, but committed just nine attack errors on the night to control the offensive tempo. Taylor Sander, Ben Patch and Josue Rivera all surpassed the double-digit kills mark, paced by Sander’s 17.
Matt West (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood HS) handed out 48 assists during the contest and picked up a team-high eight digs.
Pepperdine looks to get back on track this Saturday, March 30 when they face Cal Baptist in Riverside. The Waves and Lancers square off at 7 p.m.
