Stanford came out firing in the first set, amassing a 4-1 lead early on. Pepperdine countered equally as early, however, evening the score with back-to-back blocks from Max Chamberlain and Colby Harriman. The set went point-for-point towards a 10-10 tie before an ace from David Wieczorek and kills from Alex Harthaller helped the Waves to a 6-2 run for the advantage. The Cardinal brought the score to within one at 21-20, but kills from Harriman, Wexter and Harthaller and a final rejection from Chamberlain and Harriman and the Waves pulled ahead with a 25-21 first set win.

The Waves were fueled by the momentum of the first set win and on top of a .524 hitting percentage in the second set alone, shot out to a 6-1 lead. Pepperdine continued to put balls down on the floor en route to 13-7 and 18-13 leads late in the action. In the final moments, a block effort from Harthaller, Harriman and Wexter gave the home team the edge and a final smash from Harthaller put the Waves ahead 2-0 with the 25-17 set win.

In the third and final set, Stanford gained the early lead with a 5-2 advantage. The Waves countered to tie the set at 8-8 and each side continued to move forward point-by-point. After a 17-17 tie, Pepperdine brought out the big guns and kills from Harriman and Wieczorek and an ace from Wieczorek earned the home team the match-point opportunity. A final pair of kills from seniors Harthaller and Harriman finished the match off with a 25-21 set win.
