Crider Earns MPSF co-Player of the Week Honor

MALIBU, Calif. Â— Sophomore setter Kasey Crider of the Pepperdine men’s volleyball team has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation’s co-Player of the Week, the conference announced yesterday.

Crider (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS) made the first two MPSF starts of his career this past weekend, doing so in a tough place to play in front of big crowds, but helped the Waves to a pair of victories at #11 Hawaii. He averaged 13.75 assists, 3.50 digs and 1.00 blocks in eight games. He led the Waves to a team hitting percentage of .345 over the two matches (Hawaii hit just .185).

He had 48 assists, 14 digs and five blocks in the first victory and 62 assists, 14 digs and three blocks in the second as the Waves won both matches in four games.

Crider had the unenviable task of replacing four-time All-American Jonathan Winder, but is off to an excellent start as the Waves are now 3-0. He is averaging team highs of 13.23 assists and 2.54 digs, as well as 0.77 blocks and 0.15 aces.

Cal State Northridge’s Eric Vance was the other recipient of the award.

The Waves have two MPSF matches at home this weekend in Firestone Fieldhouse. They play Pacific on Friday (Jan. 23) at 7 p.m. and Stanford on Saturday (Jan. 24) at 7 p.m.
