MPSF RELEASE

MALIBU, Calif. – David Wieczorek and Alex Harthaller swept the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation weekly honors this week after leading the No. 5 Pepperdine men’s volleyball team to three wins over ranked opponents in Firestone Fieldhouse, including a 3-1 win over then-ranked No. 3 Hawai’i.

Wieczorek earns his fifth career offensive player of the week honor and the fourth of this season, which is the first time a single player has tabbed four honors in a single-season since at least the 2006 season.  MPSF do not go back further than that.  This is the first-career defensive player of the week accolade for Harthaller.

David Wieczorek was unstoppable for the #7 Waves this week, propelling his team to three wins over ranked opponents including two sweeps and a 3-1 upset over #3 Hawai’i throughout.  He posted a career-high six aces against #14 CUI and a season-high 22 kills against #3 UH.  He averaged a staggering 6.40 points/set with 4.90 kills/set, 1.40 digs/set, 1.00 aces/set and 0.90 blocks/set in an all-around effort.  He amassed 49 smashes with only 13 errors on 90 swings for a .400 success rate on the front line, while adding 10 aces, 14 digs and nine blocks including one solo rejection.  He also marked 53 service receptions with only two errors for a .962 output on the back line.
