MALIBU, Calif. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its annual list of All-Americans and two members from the Pepperdine men’s volleyball team made the cut. Both Matt West and Josh Taylor were singled out as two of the best volleyball players in the country and were both placed on the second team roster.

Just 20 players total, 10 on the first team and 10 on the second team, comprise the AVCA All-American squad.

With today’s announcement, junior West (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood HS) becomes a two-time All-American after picking up first team honors as a sophomore.

The setter enters tonight’s MPSF Semifinal match vs. Stanford with an 11.09 assists per set average. That stat ranks third in the league and seventh in the NCAA.

With West quarterbacking the offense, the Waves hit at a .297 attack percentage – 11th in the country – and up from a .295 clip from last season. Pepperdine has swung at .300+ in 14 contests this season.

The junior has dished over 3,500 assists during his three seasons at Pepperdine. He is on pace to become just the second player to surpass 4,000 during his senior campaign, joining current assistant coach and four-time All-American Jonathan Winder.

Taylor (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) makes his debut on the All-American roster this season, after ranking top-10 in kills and points in the NCAA all season long. Pepperdine’s go-to hitter averages 4.09 kills per set, third in the MPSF behind fellow honorees Taylor Crabb and Taylor Sander.

The junior is an all-around contributor, ranking first on the team in aces (0.28 per set) and fourth on the team in blocks (0.74 per set) which leads to a 4.79 points per set average – fifth in the NCAA.

With his 16th of 18 kills vs. Hawaii on Saturday, April 12, Taylor became the Waves’ 18th member of the 1,000 kills club, joining the likes of Pepperdine greats such as Dain Blanton and Brad Keenan.

This season’s AVCA All-American list was comprised of 14 MPSF players, four MIVA players and two from EIVA schools.

Pepperdine now boasts 41 AVCA All-Americans.

The Waves, ranked #2, face #3 Stanford tonight at 4 p.m. (PT) Action inside the Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah can be watched live and for free on theW.tv.
