Ross and Gerrans Receive All-MPSF Academic Team Honors

2012 MPSF All-Academic Team Selections

MALIBU, Calif. - Chase Ross and Kyle Gerrans were honored with Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic team honors, as announced by the league office. This is the second-consecutive year Ross has picked up the award, while it is the first time Gerrans has been recognized.

In order to be selected, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average, be at least a sophomore academically, have completed one full academic year at the institution prior to the season for which the award is being received and have competed in at least 50 percent of the season's matches.

Ross (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) averaged 2.04 kills/set as the Waves’ starting outside hitter, while picking up 1.11 digs/set on the defensive end. After completing his undergraduate degree in accounting in 2011, Ross returned for the 2012 season while in his first year of graduate school. He completed his first year as a grad student with a 3.33 cumulative grade point average while studying history.

Pepperdine’s other all-academic team member was Gerrans (Los Gatos, Calif./Valley Christian HS), a sophomore defensive specialist. Gerrans saw action in 26 matches, including seven starts. Not only did he contribute defensively with 0.62 digs/set, he was also a reliable serving specialist. In his 69 service attempts of the season, the sophomore did not commit a single error.

Forty-four student-athletes from 11 institutions were named to the MPSF All-Academic team. Stanford, UC San Diego and Pacific topped the list with six awardees apiece.

Gerrans is an economics major and boasts a 3.35 GPA.

Pepperdine completed its season with a 14-15 record and a seventh-place finish in the MPSF.
