No. 6 Waves Water Polo Wins Two at the Santa Clara Rodeo Tournament
A 20-2 win over Harvard and a 16-7 victory over Bucknell capped off the Waves' weekend in the Bay Area.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 6 Pepperdine water polo squad netted an impressive 36 total goals over two contests as they defeated Harvard 20-2 and No. 17 Bucknell 16-7 on Sunday at the Santa Clara Rodeo Tournament. The Waves were led by Andrew Milcovich who netted five goals and Matt Brown, Matthew DeTrane and Brandon Picone as each netted four goals over both games.
The Waves got things started off early on Sunday morning as they held the Crimson scoreless in the first quarter and netted three goals of their own. In the second quarter the Waves extended their lead to 7-0 before the Crimson netted their only goals of the game to put the score at 8-2 after two quarters of action.
The Waves shored up their defense in the third quarter and did not allow anymore goals and netted five more of their own. DeTrane (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo HS/Diablo Valley College) netted the third of his four goals in the quarter and Brown (Bellevue, Wash./Brown Academy) put away his first of the game. Heading into the final quarter the score was set at 13-2.
In the final quarter the Waves were led by Brown and Luke Hewko(Irvine, Calif./Servite HS) who put away two goals apiece and accounted for four of the team's seven scores. The Waves defense shutout the Crimson offense for the second-straight quarter and the game finished with a score or 20-2.
The team regrouped and returned in the afternoon to face the No. 7 Bucknell Bison. Ten different players netted goals in the 16-7 victory for the Waves. Milcovich led the way with four goals in the victory.
The Bison held strong with the Waves in the first quarter. After going down 1-0 as Mike Tragitt (Clovis, Calif./Clovis HS) netted the first goal, the Bison tied it at 1-1 and then went ahead 2-1. The Waves tied things up with eight seconds left in the quarter off one of Spencer Hamby(Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS) two goals.
In the second quarter the Waves took the lead at 3-2 off Hamby's second goal of the game and never looked back, reeling off six more goals in the period to take the lead at 9-3.
The Waves again went on the offensive in the third quarter, netting five goals to put the lead to 13-5. Colin Carroll(Fountain Valley, Calif./Mater Dei HS) netted both of his goals in this period.
In the final quarter the Waves defense anchored by junior Matthew Carter (Princeton, N.J./The Lawrenceville School) held the Bison to only two goals. The offense added three more goals, with Stephen Loomis(Moraga, Calif./Campolindo HS), Brown and Milcovich rounding out the scoring for the Waves in the 16-7 victory.
The 12-7 Waves will return home to Malibu to host two MPSF games next weekend. The Waves will host Long Beach State on Saturday (Oct. 29) at 12 p.m. and UC Santa Barbara at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 30).
