MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine hosted No. 1 USC in its regular season and MPSF finale and dropped a 16-5 decision Sunday at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. The Waves (11-10, 3-5 MPSF) were simply overmatched by the undefeated Trojans (22-0, 7-0 MPSF).

Marko Madaras (Eger, Hungary/Golden West College) recorded a hat trick in the third period to lead the Waves offensively. Seniors Stephen Loomis (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo HS) and Spencer Hamby (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS) also scored goals in their final home match.

USC scored the first 11 goals in the contest and shut out the Waves in the first half at 10-0. Madaras got the Waves on the board in the third, while Loomis and Hamby scored in the fourth.

Nikola Vavic, Kostas Genidounias and Michael Rosenthal each recorded hat tricks for the Trojans.

Goalie Bence Valics (Eger, Hungary) had a busy day for Pepperdine and made 11 saves.

Pepperdine played with an extremely short bench against USC with four of its regulars sidelined with injuries, including Matthew DeTrane (Moraga, Calif./Diablo Valley CC), the team’s second leading scorer. The Waves used just 10 players in the match.

Now Pepperdine turns its focus towards getting healthy to compete in the 2012 MPSF Championship. The Tournament runs from November 23-25 at the McDonald’s Swim Stadium on the USC campus.
