No. 7 Pepperdine Drops Tough Battle with No. 3 UCLA, 10-8

MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine hosted No. 3 UCLA in its regular season home finale and dropped a hard fought 10-8 decision Saturday at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. Senior Danny White tallied a career high five goals in his final home match for the Waves.
Pepperdine (9-12, 1-5 MPSF) battled all game with the Bruins (25-2, 5-1 MPSF) and had a chance to tie the game in the final minute. Junior Marko Madaras (Eger, Hungary/Golden West College) had his shot hit off the crossbar with just over one minute left, that would have tied the game at nine. UCLA junior Christopher Meinhold scored on the Bruins next possession to put the game away for good.
White, (Oxnard, Calif./Rio Mesa HS), playing in his last home game, had a goal in every quarter for the Waves including a penalty shot that put Pepperdine within one with 2:47 to play. The three year starter now has 32 goals on the season which ranks third on the team. Madaras also chipped in two goals while senior Chad Farnan (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley HS) put away his third goal of the season.
The Bruins were led by Lucas Reynolds, Paul Reynolds and Danny McClintock who each had two goals. Also scoring for UCLA was Anthony Daboub, Aimone Barabino and Gordon Marshall.
Senior All-American goalie Bence Valics (Eger Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Secondary) had 14 saves for Pepperdine, while Garrett Danner had 13 for the Bruins. Pepperdine wraps up the MPSF season on Sunday, November 24 when it looks to bounce back against No. 9 UC Irvine. The two teams have already played each other twice this season with each squad claiming a victory. Match time against the Anteaters is set for 12:00 p.m.
