: The No. 9 Pepperdine men’s water polo team hosts No. 7 Long Beach State on Friday at 4 p.m. The game is the first Golden Coast Conference matchup for the Waves this season.

Game #22: Friday (Oct. 13) vs. No. 7 Long Beach State at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu, Calif.: No. 9 Pepperdine (13-8, 0-0 GCC) vs. No. 7 Long Beach State (9-7, 0-1 GCC) at 4:00 p.m.

Golden Coast Conference: The Waves begin GCC play this week against Long Beach State. Last year, the Waves ended the regular season in fourth place, before sweeping through the conference tournament, capturing the inaugural title.

Series vs. Long Beach St.: PEPP 69-37 - The Waves and 49ers have met each year since 1976. Long Beach State has won the past five meetings, with the Waves’ last win coming in 2013.

Last Week: Last week, the Waves had two tough losses to No. 8 UC Santa Barbara and No. 2 UCLA. Both games came down to the wire, with the Waves only running out of time in both games.

Rankings: The Waves are currently ranked No. 9 in the nation by the Collegiate Water Polo Association. Pepperdine has been ranked as high as No. 8 on the year.

GCC Player of the Week: Sam Paur was awarded the GCC Player of the Week for Sept. 14 after scoring six goals on Sunday, Sept. 10. Paur is the first Wave to win the award this year.

Terry SchroederTerry Schroeder picked up the GCC Coach of the Year to go along with the inaugural title in 2016. This is his third overall Conference Coach of the Year honor, grabbing the PCAA honor in 1989, and the MPSF honor in 1998. He was also the NCAA National Coach of the year in 1997.
